Royal fans shed tears as George and Charlotte join procession in final goodbye to their great-grandmother the Queen

It's a sombre and emotional day for those who have followed the Queen at different times throughout her 70-year reign as she is laid to rest. Her state funeral is taking place on Monday, September 19, following her death on September 8.

Queen Elizabeth II died 'peacefully' at Balmoral, her Scottish Highlands home, it was announced by Buckingham Palace. The nation has since been in a 10 day period of national mourning with hundreds of thousands lining the streets of London to pay their final respects as the Queen lied in state at Westminster Hall.

Ahed of her funeral, it was announced that Prince George and his younger sister Princess Charlotte, 7, would gather with 2,000 people in Westminster Abbey to remember their late great-grandmother on Monday, as millions watch the televised service across the globe.

The young royals were seen travelling in a car with the Prince and Princess of Wales they made their way to join the funeral procession at Westminster Abbey. There was then a change of arrangements as Kate joined Queen Consort Camilla in the short journey to the historic building.

They arrived at the church shortly after some of the Queen’s grandchildren including Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. They were greeted at the doors and as the heir to the throne, nine, appeared in his black suit and tie alongside his younger sister, seven, wearing a smart black dress and coat with a matching hat, Royal fans were instantly overcome with emotion.

George and Charlotte then walked through the gothic church with the royal family, in procession behind the Queen’s coffin as it is carried by the military bearer party. Their grandfather, the King with the Queen Consort were immediately behind the coffin, followed by the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, then the Duke of York, followed by the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and then the Prince and Princess of Wales.

George and Charlotte, who called the late Queen 'Gan Gan', were together, behind their parents, walking side-by-side in formation, followed by their uncle and aunt the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and other members of the royal family.
