Royal fans howl as Coronation carriage wave compared to iconic film scene

Yesterday, many royal fans were left stunned by the sight of the two distinct state coaches that transported King Charles III and Queen Camilla back and forth from their Coronation at Westminster Abbey.

Their Majesties were first transported to the ceremony in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, the newest coach at Buckingham Palace's Mews.

The horse-drawn carriage, which was built to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in 2012, certainly made for a breathtaking sight, with its golden wheels and elegant craftsmanship.

The striking black and gold-outlined carriage, which was drawn by six Windsor Grey Horses, is carved from oak and is predominantly made of aluminum.

Many however just couldn't help but think of another regal journey, that of Shrek, Princess Fiona, and Donkey in the iconic animated movie, Shrek 2.

As any Shrek fan will no doubt recall, newlyweds Shrek and Fiona travel to the Kingdom of Far Far Away in their onion carriage, joined of course by Shrek's pal donkey in the backseat.

For some film lovers, the sight of the Diamond Jubilee State Coach making its way across London put them in mind of the ogre couple going to meet Fiona's royal parents.

This proved to be especially true after one fan uploaded a clip to TikTok, played alongside the track Funky Town by Lipps Inc., ie. the song that blasts when Shrek finally pulls into the faraway kingdom.

The TikTok user in question, who goes by the username @gogreeek, declared, "it's giving Shrek", adding, "they on the way to Far Far Away".

Other TikTok users were left howling at the comparison. Many agreed they just couldn't un-see the similarities, while others couldn't stop doing impressions of Donkey's now famous, "are we there yet?"

One amused person chuckled: "Lmao that's why I felt that I've seen it before."

Another wrote: "Might have to binge Shrek in honour of the king."

A third commented: "This song should’ve 100% been playing".

During the Coronation procession, Their Majesties travelled in the even more fairytale-esque Gold State Coach, a 260-year-old carriage that's been used at every British coronation since William IV first ascended to the throne in 1831.
