Royal fans baffled by small detail in Queen’s Balmoral drawing room

Royal fans were delighted to see photos of The Queen looking in good health this week.

The 96-year-old monarch, who has faced ongoing mobility issues, carried out the historic duty at her home in Aberdeenshire for the first time, rather than Buckingham Palace. It marks the first time that Her Majesty was pictured since arriving at Balmoral for her summer holiday on July 21.

The Queen has been suffering from episodic mobility problems since last autumn, promoting staff to ask new Prime Minister Liz Truss to travel to see the Queen, shortly after Boris Johnson's exit. With her hair neatly curled, the monarch, dressed in a blouse, cardigan and a Balmoral tartan skirt, stood as she met Ms Truss.

Keen-eyed fans were thrilled to see the new photographs of the Drawing Room, a cosy room filled with antiques - and a relatively new addition.

To the left of Her Majesty, fans spotted a small white box on a coffee table next to a large lamp - which was identified by royal watchers as a portable wireless doorbell.

This can be used by anywhere by the Queen in her home to call for assistance - something that is needed in the large property, that boasts 52 bedrooms.

On Twitter, one fan joked: 'Has the queen got a vape on that side table?", while another added: "Or a kazoo."

A third explained: "An electric bell to summon doorkeeper."

Fans also wondered why The Queen didn't let go of of her handbag during the meeting, despite being in her own home.

Some say the Queen uses her handbag to communicate secret signals to her staff, depending on its position, while others others were to keen to find out what was inside.

The Queen remains on her summer break on the Balmoral estate, and is not due to return until early October.

Her Majesty postponed a Privy Council meeting, set to take place on September 8th, after being advised by royal doctors to rest, Buckingham Palace said.

A Palace spokesman said: "After a full day yesterday, Her Majesty has this afternoon accepted doctors’ advice to rest.

"This means that the Privy Council meeting that had been due to take place this evening will be rearranged.”
