As royal fans flocked to see King Charles on a royal walkabout in Doncaster today, the last face many of us expected to see in the crowd was that of Paul Chuckle - real name Paul Elliott - from the Chuckle Brothers. The beloved comedy legend was spotted lining the streets, eagerly awaiting the arrival of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and fans couldn't help but wonder how such a conversation would go.
The 75-year-old, who, alongside his late brother Barry made up one-half of the iconic comedy duo the Chuckle Brothers, was photographed beaming amongst other onlookers waiting outside Doncaster Mansion House. The King arrived for an unplanned walkabout to celebrate Doncaster's new city status - and Paul took it as an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the monarch.
Sharing the cheery selfies via Twitter, an excited Paul wrote, 'not long now' as he waited patiently amongst the crowd.
Chuckle Brothers fans were eager to see a conversation take place between Paul and the new King, with one person writing on Twitter that it would be like 'Royalty meeting Donny's King'.
Another described the scene as 'royalty meeting royalty', while a third argued that King Charles 'should be honoured to meet such showbiz royalty'.
In follow-up pictures, Paul was able to snap King Charles and Queen Camilla on the steps of Mansion House. Some expressed disappointment that the much-hoped-for chat hadn't taken place, remarking that it was 'a shame' Paul hadn't managed to grab a photo with the King.
Imagining what an encounter between the monarch and the Chucklevision star might look like, one person quipped, 'to you, to one', riffing off the brothers' famous catchphrase.
Others admitted they were more thrilled about Paul making an appearance than they were about the royal visit, with one faithful fan writing: "Caught a glimpse of the King. More made up I saw Paul Chuckle. Only in Donny."
This sighting comes after a lone protester threw eggs at King Charles and Queen Camilla during a walkabout. It's understood none of the eggs actually hit the royal couple, and the protester was detained by police officers.
