Roy Makaay has opened up how he ended up part of Giovanni van Bronckhorst's Rangers staff.
The 47-year-old is celebrating his one year anniversary at the Ibrox helm today after taking over the top job following Steven Gerrard's decision to join Aston Villa in the English Premier League. The Liverpool and England hero has since lost his job while the man who replaced him at Ibrox is under increased pressure after a poor run of performances and results which leaves his side trailing Celtic by nine points in the Premiership standings.
It's been an eventful 12 months for the Ibrox staff after guiding Rangers to the Europa League Final in Seville while they also lifted the Scottish Cup with victory over Hearts. However, this season has been a different story both domestically and in Europe after picking up the unwanted tag as the 'worst ever' Champions League group stage side following six defeats and a -20 goal difference.

Looking back how he became a part of the Rangers story under his fellow countryman, Makaay told Graham Hunter on his Big Interview podcast: "The news came that Gerrard was leaving Rangers for Villa and a couple of days later I got a phone call, 'Probably I'm gonna be the manager of Rangers, I want to take you, do you want to join me?"
"The day after I went to his house with my wife to say, 'What do you want me to do' and a few days later we were here."
One of the big talking points at Rangers has been the striking duo of Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak.
The pair have completely different styles of play with the summer signing the preferred option of late - but Makaay knows what the Colombian hitman can do and was quick to hail his displays before he was ruled out injured last term.
He added: "Alfredo was injured for a couple of months last season and we missed him at the end of the season," he added.
"Kemar Roofe was injured already. Alfredo was in a great moment when he got injured, he scored a lot of important goals both in the league but in our European run. He scored in Dortmund and at home.
"We had to put Joe Aribo up front who did quite well. You have to find solutions which is not easy.
"Antonio is a really nice guy and I can keep my Spanish with Morelos and my German with Colak so for my language it's good.
"But they're two completely different strikers."
