Roy Keane theory on Jadon Sancho proved right after Manchester United win over Liverpool FC

Roy Keane's theory on Jadon Sancho has been proved right following the Manchester United forward's performance against Liverpool on Monday night.

United were good value for their victory at Old Trafford as last season's Premier League and Champions League runners-up were comfortably second best. Marcus Rashford would go on to score the winning goal as he broke the offside trap to fire past Alisson in the second half.

However, it was Sancho who would get the ball rolling in the first half. On 16 minutes, the former Borussia Dortmund man showed supreme confidence to receive a low Anthony Elanga cross, before wrong-footing James Milner and leaving Virgil van Dijk statue-esque to give the Reds the lead.

The sense of relief was palpable as Sancho found the bottom corner and his wild celebrations showed just how much that moment meant to him. One man looking on from the Sky Sports studio, however, would not have been surprised by the composure the Reds forward showed.

Speaking following the victory at Leeds in February earlier this year, former United captain Keane delivered his verdict on Sancho: "He has grown in confidence and is getting the United way.

"He's getting braver and is showing a bit more courage. We talk about what he had done at Dortmund, playing for Dortmund and Man United is completely different.

"Dortmund are nowhere near as big as Man United. It's those little details that come from confidence and getting that swagger. It is nice to see because he was getting heavily criticised."

Sancho has shown clear signs that he has the capabilities to put in a performance like the one we saw on Monday, but at times it has just not come together. What United fans and Keane will have been most pleased with is how he has managed to keep his confidence despite a slow start to his career at Old Trafford.

In a game of that magnitude, with the current problems that surround United, it showed that Sancho is still comfortable in his own abilities and trusts that he can make a difference. Hopefully, this will be the turning point towards the start of a successful season for both the Reds and the 22-year-old.
