Roy Keane was proven right over his assessment of Frank Lampard's return to Chelsea after the former Everton and Derby boss fell to defeat for the third game in a row. The Blues were were battered by Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and could only count themselves lucky to come out 2-1 losers on the day.
It comes after Lampard's second stint in charge continues to struggle to get off the ground. Chelsea lost 1-0 to Wolves last weekend before falling to a limp 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League midweek. The task doesn't get any easier either, with the second leg against Carlo Ancelotti's European warriors next on the agenda.
Bullish as usual, Keane was quick to point out the problems of the appointment before his former rival had even gotten his feet under the table at Stamford Bridge. Speaking on The Overlap, the ex-Manchester United midfielder was keen to stress that Lampard should consider himself fortunate to land the role.

"Frank is a lucky boy," he said. "Frank has had some really good jobs, you need some luck in the game, but to go back in there? Good luck to him." That was largely the reception given to Lampard by most with his previous struggles in the SW6 hot seat and recent failure at Everton used against him.
"The way things have changed in football, the manager is under a lot of pressure now," Keane explained. "They've got some excellent players, but obviously something is missing at the moment. Even in the last couple of performances, they're not finding a way to win.
"I look at the personality of a team when all the stats are positive in terms of possession and chances created, but they haven't got that nastiness that some of the Chelsea teams have had over the last few years."
After being on the receiving end of waves of pressure from Roberto De Zerbi's Seagulls it was Lampard himself that made a similar observation. "We were short. A yard short, a tackle short, a fighting duel moment short and when that's not right you're not going to win games," he said candidly after the match.
"You have to have the capacity to do that as well as the desire and at the minute we're falling short on that and need to turn it around quickly."
Lampard also added that he 'didn't like what I saw today' in further criticism of his team. It leaves Chelsea stranded in mid-table and falling further and further away from a top half finish, let alone within reach of European qualification.
