Former Manchester United and Premier League icon Roy Keane says that any side hoping to catch Liverpool and Man City will need a healthy dose of luck after the showing both teams put in during the FA Community Shield.
The Reds are now full steam ahead for 2022/23 after Jurgen Klopp picked up his first ever Community Shield title with the 3-1 victory. Trent Alexander-Arnold had given Liverpool the lead in the first half after he curled a lovely effort into the top corner from outside the box.
Julian Alvarez equalised midway through the second half whilst both Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez netted late on to put the gloss on a win for the Merseyside giants with less than a week now to go until the first Premier League game kicks off. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham supporters would have all been watching on from afar to analyse just where the two league favourites are in terms of their development from last season when the standards went through the rood, so what would fans of each three club takeaway from the contest?

Well, Keane has just answered that question with his own worrying verdict which will not make good reading for any of the London trio.
"It’s been a good day for Liverpool," Keane said in his analysis on ITV's post-match coverage. "A new striker, good habits to get into winning, other teams might be sitting watching this thinking are these teams going to ease off? Not with Pep and Klopp in charge; the hunger and desire from both teams. Klopp got a big smile, looks refreshed, got a new contract - good luck stopping these teams.
"You’re always putting markers on teams, they’ll be watching looking for signs. This pre-season, the whole package, options off the bench it really is scary.
"They’ve got big squads, Trent just got interviewed, he looked as if he’d been for a walk in the park. These boys, the fitness levels are mind-boggling. "
The 'big squad' factor is something that new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will want to fix before September 1 as he aims to back manager Thomas Tuchel with four more new additions in his £200million rebuild.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham have strengthened significantly, signing 11 players between them. And each side has had a better pre-season campaign than the Blues. Whether or not any of them can catch the two teams that have been dominating the title race agenda since 2016/17 remains to be seen.
