Roy Keane delivers honest Arsenal verdict in early warning for new Premier League season

Roy Keane believes Arsenal 'blew' their opportunity to finish in the top four last season.

The Gunners were four points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur with three games to go, but defeat in the North London Derby set the tone for a bad end to the season.

Newcastle United then comfortably beat them 2-0 at St James' Park meaning Spurs were in control on the final day. Arsenal recovered to record a 5-1 win over Everton but it wasn't enough to ensure they finished in a Champions League spot.

In fact, as revealed on a short debate released by Sky Bet on Tuesday, Keane believes Spurs were gifted the chance to finish fourth by Mikel Arteta's side: "He [Antonio Conte] got a helping hand with Arsenal.

"They blew it at the end. They got themselves in a great position, as brilliant as Spurs done, Arsenal had it in their hands and they blew it."

It serves as a warning for next season too. With Arsenal and Spurs likely to battle it out for a Champions League spot once again, Arteta's team can't afford to be complacent if it goes down to the wire.

One way to combat that is by adding significant squad depth. So far, they've signed four players in Marquinhos, Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus but more is required if they wish to bridge the gap between the top Premier League teams and themselves.
