Police are investigating after an object was allegedly thrown towards Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.
An item was thrown towards the pitch after Palace’s 2-0 home Premier League loss to Bournemouth, where the Eagles supporters expressed their frustration with manager Hodgson.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that investigations are underway into the incident, though no arrests have been made. The object did not strike the Eagles boss, and no one was injured.
Palace supporters delivered resounding boos to their team after the final whistle on Wednesday, with Hodgson’s side slipping to just one win from their last eight matches.
Former England coach Hodgson brushed off the incident, none the wiser as to what had happened and unfazed.
“That’s news to me,” said Hodgson, when told about the object being thrown.
“So you mean to say there was a fella out there who doesn’t like me? Oh well, that will definitely stop me sleeping tonight.”
Hodgson claimed Palace fans have been “spoiled” by the club’s success in recent years, in an assertion that will do nothing to calm frustrations among the fanbase.
Palace currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, with 16 points from their first 15 matches of the season.
The Eagles must face Liverpool, Manchester City, Brighton and Chelsea all before the turn of the year, however.
“The expectations are high, hence the boos,” said Hodgson. “People came to see us win and we weren’t capable of winning.
“We tried hard; we weren’t able to cause them enough problems. I think the scoreline is actually a bit harsh.
“The fact is the fans have been spoiled here in recent times, they’re used to seeing us do very well at home and getting good results and this year we’ve not been able to do that.”
