I am obsessed with bringing a welcoming, elegant, English country feel to my home, and Rowen & Wren's 2024 autumn collection just made it a whole lot easier
As an Interiors Editor, you might think it would be tricky to land on a design style I love the most. What look do you choose for your own home when every day you are surrounded by new trends, new products and new beautiful spaces? Well actually, for me I have been trying to create the same style in my home for decades.
Modern rustic, modern farmhouse, French country, English country, cottagecore – it's a look that's had many names over the years but it's always been high up in the interior design charts. And no matter what label it's given it's a timeless style that never dates.
That effortless, slightly country, and slightly rustic but at the same time elevated and considered is a style that I am constantly trying to achieve. So when I got a sneak peek at Rowen & Wren's autumn collection and saw it was a whole range based around the exact vision I have for my spaces, I was thrilled.
The new autumn collection is made up of beautiful furniture pieces, gorgeous bedding that would add an elegant touch to any style bedroom, and decor pieces that look like you could have picked them straight out of an antique sale.
Each piece is timeless and would work in the home all year round, but they are perfect for giving your home a cosy update for the change in seasons. The colours are warm and welcoming, the fabrics soft and inviting.
H&G's edit of Rowen & Wren's autumn collection 2024
You can shop the whole collection right now on Rowen & Wren, but these are a selection of my favourite pieces that are perfect for updating your home for the change in seasons.
Switching out my rugs is something I do twice a year. Once at the start of March and once at the start of October. They make such a big impact on a room and I think it's one of the easiest ways to update a room for autumn. The Wilma Wool Rug is perfect for my seasonal switch, it's weighty and warm underfoot and the subtle pattern would work perfectly with my almost neutral colour schemes
I'm always in need of some extra chairs at this time of year because I am an autumn hoster. As the days get shorter I would much rather invite people over than go out. The Turner Carver Chair is a classic, it has a vintage look with the quality of a new piece – I love vintage furniture but have broken more vintage chairs than I would care to admit. With this piece, you get the best of both worlds.
I'm lucky enough to spend a few weeks a year in (very very) rural France and this wine cooler so reminds me of pieces I see in the brocantes I frequent when I am over there. It's handmade which explains that really artisanal look and would make for a lovely centerpiece to my cosy autumn evenings hosting.
Patchwork is a trend I am seeing making a comeback for autumn 2024. It's classic, cosy, and has a nostalgic feel for so many of us. Made from 100% linen this quilt is soft and light, perfect for all year round but particularly lovely for throwing at the end of a bed to add an extra layer as the nights get cooler.
To add to my cosy den-like bed, these patchwork throw pillows to prop myself up on. These would also be great for a living room update too, my sofa throw cushions are another thing I like to change when making my autumnal decor adjustments.
My bed becomes even more of a sanctuary in the autumn and winter. Getting into bed early with a book because it's dark and miserable outside is one of the joys of the change in season. So I like to change out my bedding to mark the occasion and the gorgeous detail on this set is the perfect subtle update.
Coffee in bed is my morning ritual. Yes, every morning. It's the perfect relaxing start to my weekdays and I even set my alarm early to ensure I can fit it in. A tray to perch my cup on, or my book and a tea of an evening, is sure to elevate that experience.
During autumn evenings my home is almost solely lit by soft lamps and candlelights. As someone who struggles with the shorter days in winter, one way I combat it is really upping the cosy, cocooning feel once the sun goes down. These sconces would be perfect for creating that atmosphere.
A kitchen table comes into it's own in autumn and winter. Long evenings spent eating and drinking al fresco are replace with intimate, informal candle lit dinners in the kitchen. This is the perfect size and shape for creating a kitchen dining nook too.
I get such joy from changing my home with the seasons and always feel so ready for it when the time arrives. When buying new pieces for my seasonal switches I do always consider the style of my home throughout the whole year too, I like to invest in pieces with longevity that will last more than just a season. The entire Rowen & Wren collection is just that, it's timeless, but so perfect for going into autumn and winter.
