Rowan Atkinson party and fireworks at hotel near Bristol leaves animals 'frantic'

Rowan Atkinson has reportedly thrown a party a hotel near Bristol so loud that it caused pets to run off in terror.

Firework displays and loud music startled nearby residents and animals during the event held at Lucknam Park Hotel near Chippenham, reports WiltshireLive.

The on-screen star was celebrating his partner Louise Ford's 40th birthday at the Wiltshire hotel on Saturday night (May 21). The sound of music and entertainment could be detected from homes in nearby Colerne and even further afield, with some people complaining of disturbance throughout the night.

Lucknam Park Hotel pre-warned residents of the event - which was allegedly heard from miles away - and shared the news in a community group. “Would just like to inform everyone that there will be a birthday celebration at Lucknam Park tomorrow evening which will include a firework display. The display is planned for 9.45pm," they wrote.

Many residents said fireworks were set off at about 10pm which petrified some animals. Terri Freeland who lives in nearby Box Hill told Wiltshire Live that her two dogs went missing when the display started.

She said: "I live in the opposite side of the valley so I don't actually live anywhere near the venue, so the fact that they did put out notices that there were going to be fireworks, I wasn't aware of because I'm not actually that close."

Terri explained she was watching television when she became aware of the sound of fireworks. "One of my dogs is old and is terrified of fireworks but fortunately is deaf. But the youngest one, the 18-month-old just went, disappeared."

She said that she was absolutely 'frantic' searching for the young dog in the dark and later realised that her older dog had also fled. "It was not a pleasant experience, I eventually just had to leave the gate open and go to bed, there was nothing more I could do".

She had concerns that the younger dog could have made his way to the nearby A4 after he was missing for around three hours. Terri said she was frustrated that she wasn't able to prepare better for the disruption.

Terri explained: "I make all the preparations to keep my animals safe on Bonfire Night and New Year's Eve and although there's been an attempt to give notice it didn't reach me. I'm a responsible dog owner, I wouldn't let them out if I knew the fireworks were on.

"A lot of people have complained about it, I picked up that there was a lot of noise and a lot of problems, it wasn't just me", she added. Fortunately, both dogs returned safe and well by the next morning.

One local said the fireworks at the event, which started at 10pm, "sounded like a heavy bomber group dropping their payload".

Charlene, 35, a mother of one who was in bed when the fireworks went off, said she initially thought that the local RAF base was being bombed.

She told MailOnline: "It actually sounded like bombs going on at first, but then you heard the sprinkling of the fireworks and it suddenly made sense. I've been to bonfire nights of course, so you know what they sound like, but when that kicked off the other night it was incredibly loud.

"It happened just after ten too - which was later when they said it would be."

She added: "It sounds quite distasteful but I really did think when it started off 'oh god the Russians are here. It was that loud. It must have been an expensive display, it was extremely loud. My husband was downstairs and he said that the house was shaking, our frontdoor was shaking."

Wiltshire Live has contacted Lucknam Park Hotel for comment.
