Nearly $11 million is being awarded to support the construction of 16 electric vehicle charging stations across Kentucky in an initial round of approved funding.
The majority of the EV stations are located in western Kentucky, with the easternmost stations located in Versailles, Florence and Walton.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced the funding during his regular media briefing Thursday.
“We have plans and we'll be working very closely with all of our other regions to make sure that everybody benefits from this,” Beshear said. “There will be a second round of funding out there from the federal government that's more destination related.”
The state estimates 37 such stations will be constructed for the initial build-out, which includes construction along state interstates and parkways. A full list of stations supported by the initial $11 million is available online.
Federal funds equaling $70 million are supporting the charging station network in total. Another $70 million in private funds is matching that amount.
Beshear is running for re-election against Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
