Dog walkers in East Renfrewshire have been warned not to let their pets go near the water at Capelrig Burn, which runs through the popular Rouken Glen Park.
East Renfrewshire Council posted the warning on social media yesterday, and stated that the contamination was due to 'a pollution incident' and urging dog owners to stay clear.
The council confirmed in the comments that signage had been erected in the relevant areas, warning people of the danger. The post reads: "Scottish Water and SEPA are aware of this incident and it is being dealt with as a matter of urgency.

"People and pets should avoid entering the water until further notice."
Locals commenting on the social media post said that the water had been 'smelly' for days, with one saying: "The Capelrig Burn was exceptionally smelly on Sunday and we kept our dog on the lead. When we looked at the water it looked contaminated although we did not know what with."
Another added: "Thought so. It stinks of sewage."
Glasgow Live contacted East Renfrewshire Council for comment, with the local authority calling it a Scottish Water issue.
A Scottish Water spokeswoman responded: “We are currently on-site dealing with an issue with a sewer which appears to have been caused by a third party and resulted in discharge into the Capelrig Burn, Newton Mearns.
“A blockage has now been cleared and there is no longer any discharge into the burn. A clean-up will of the area will now be carried out and further investigations, including a CCTV survey of the sewer pipe, are being arranged to establish if any further remedial work is required.
“Appropriate measures had been arranged to ensure any impact on the local environment was kept to a minimum.
“We continue to liaise with SEPA and other key agencies.”
