Ross Wilson in Rangers transfer pledge to Michael Beale as he reveals unwavering Ibrox board stance

Sporting director Ross Wilson insists the Rangers board will back Michael Beale in the January transfer window if the new boss wants additions.

Beale was officially unveiled as Gio van Bronckhorst's successor at Ibrox as he was paraded in front of the media for the first time since departing QPR and was flanked by Wilson and managing director Stewart Robertson. After a disappointing Champions League campaign and mixed start to the Premiership, the Rangers support are keen to see moves made to add to Beale's squad next month.

Celtic hold a nine point lead at the top of the table, and Beale is keen to chase Ange Postecoglou's men down when the World Cup break is over and the campaign restarts against Hibs. The new boss has had three training sessions with the squad and Wilson insists the new gaffer is still assessing the side. However, he insists the board will back the club's 18th manager should he want to bolster his ranks - noting that has been the case under all previous bosses.

When asked if he can offer any assurances to Beale over the January transfer budget, Wilson said: "Yeah, we spoke about that over the past week, so Michael first and foremost wants to assess what's here. Probably about three quarters of the squad he already knows very well.

"There is certainly an assurance that if he wants to do something in the market then from the board's point of view we will try and back that as much as we possibly can. As always."

Wilson was then put on the spot over why the club didn't want to appoint Beale when Steven Gerrard left and opted for Gio van Bronckhorst. He responded: "We were very impressed by the work Michael did under Steven's guidance during the period that he was here before.

"Michael used the word identity; we want to make sure we have an absolutely clear identity on the pitch. We think that the squad will be better for that.

"We know what his ideas are, and probably more than that we know the energy that he will bring as well. One of the guys asked a question about what we have felt so far, and we have certainly felt the energy of the players, working ever so hard.

"We have welcomed some players back from injury and will welcome back others in the coming days and weeks, which is another boost to the squad. We can see that energy on the pitch but above all else we want to see that identity on the pitch and we know that Michael is very clear on that."
