Ross Stewart tipped for Rangers transfer by Andy Halliday as Hearts star talks up Sunderland goal record

Andy Halliday has tipped Ross Stewart as a potential summer addition for Rangers.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set for his first full season in charge as he bids to reclaim the Premiership title from Celtic and reach the Champions League group stages next term.

The Light Blues will face two qualifiers to reach Europe's premier competition with the Dutchman likely aiming to get his main transfer targets in place for the process kicking-off.

John Souttar is already in the door on a pre-contract agreement from Hearts but Connor Goldson looks to have played his last game for the club with his contract up, while the likes of Leon Balogun and Steven Davis are also at the end of their deals.

Veteran No1 Allan McGregor appeared to give an indication over his future after what looked like an emotional swansong in the Scottish Cup Final win over Hearts.

Rangers have been short in the striker department this campaign after a season-ending injury to Alfredo Morelos while Kemar Roofe also spent time on the sidelines.

Hearts midfielder Halliday - who played for his boyhood heroes before his move to the capital - believes Ross Stewart at Sunderland deserves to be linked with a big move after banging in the goals at the Stadium of Light.

And he believes he would be a good addition for Rangers this summer.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, he said: "People will be taking notice of Ross Stewart because of how well he's done this season - I think his career has been fascinating.

"The success that Sunderland have had this season has been down to him and he deserves to be linked with clubs like Rangers.

"I don't see any doubt whatsoever that he's earned his move, if a move does come along and I'm sure he'd be a good signing for anyone with the goal record he has."
