Ross McCrorie in Aberdeen transfer exit as Bristol City 'secure' signing and Rangers in line for 'six-figure windfall'

Bristol City have won the race to sign Aberdeen’s Ross McCrorie, according to a report.

The versatile Pittodrie star emerged as a target for the Robins last month and Ashton Gate gaffer Nigel Pearson admitted his Championship side were close to a couple of signings. Bristol Live now say that it is Dons ace McCrorie and Fulham’s Joe Bryan.

The English outfit are reportedly willing to pay £2million plus add-ons with former club Rangers due a six-figure sell-on, believed to be around £200,000-300,000. After an initial loan spell, the 25-year-old star moved to Pittodrie three years ago in a fee in the region of £350,000. He recently underwent surgery with Dons boss Barry Robson revealing: "Ross had a hernia injury so he's had surgery but we're hoping to have him back pretty quick.”

However, he might have played his game for the club if a move to Bristol City is agreed. Bristol Live say: “Bristol City are confident they’ve beaten off a host of Championship rivals to secure the double signing of Joe Bryan on a free transfer from Fulham and Aberdeen’s Ross McCrorie.

“McCrorie is still to complete the final three matches of the Scottish Premiership campaign but a fee in the region of £2million, including add-ons, has been agreed for the 25-year-old who can cover a variety of positions in defence and midfield.”

McCrorie’s contract at Pittodrie runs until 2026 and he was a key player under former Aberdeen gaffer Jim Goodwin and current boss Robson with his departure a blow, although the signifiant transfer fee will soften that. The report states that West Brom and Norwich City were also interested and that the brother of Rangers goalkeeper Robby turned down more lucrative offers elsewhere with Bristol City his preferred choice.
