Investor Ross Gerber reiterated his criticism of Elon Musk-led Tesla Inc.‘s (NASDAQ:TSLA) Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, saying that the technology still needs improvements compared to its rivals.

FSD Almost Caused an Accident, Ross Gerber Says

In a post on the social media platform X on Saturday, the Gerber Kawasaki co-founder said that previous versions of the technology were not able to differentiate between a fire truck and a dump truck. “Yesterday while driving home, twice, emergency vehicles with lights on came by quickly,” he said in the post.

He then said that Tesla’s FSD system “slammed on the brakes” and almost caused an accident. Gerber shared that these issues occurred “twice in the same ride.” The investor criticized the system, saying that the “FSD still has major issues” in his post.

Notably, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Administrator, Jonathan Morrison, had earlier slammed autonomous vehicles for interfering with first-responder operations and demanded that AV companies remedy the issue.

Meanwhile, the President Donald Trump administration recently shared an updated approach to self-driving in the U.S. as the Sean Duffy-led Department of Transportation (DOT) introduced a set of proposals aimed at accelerating the adoption and development of AVs in the U.S.

Ross Gerber’s SpaceX Suggestion

The news comes as Gerber had weighed in on recent reports of Tesla selling off its Chinese business to pave the way for a possible merger with Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX). While the report was dismissed by Musk, Gerber shared that Tesla could “sell the robots and cabs to SpaceX,” which will enable it to become an EV company again.

Benzinga Edge Rankings show Tesla scores poorly on the Momentum and Value metrics, but provides satisfactory Growth and Quality. Tesla shares also fail to provide a favorable price trend in the Short, Medium and Long term.

Price Action: Tesla shares were up 1.12% to $314.69 during overnight trading.
