Rose Week festival at Lady Dixon Park will not go ahead this summer

Belfast City Council has confirmed that the annual Rose Week festival in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park will not take place in 2022. In July, thousands of guests flock to the popular South Belfast park to enjoy the summer celebrations and admire the wide displays of roses.

With more than 45,000 roses in bloom between July and September, Lady Dixon Park is a sight to behold. However, due to the lasting impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, the usual festivities are unable to go ahead this month.

The festival has not taken place since 2019.

A spokesperson for Belfast City Council told Belfast Live that they hope they can see Rose Week return in July 2023. Local judging will also take place on trail roses.

They said: "Unfortunately due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic on our staffing and resources, it has not been possible to deliver the public element of our Summer Rose Fair event this year, however local judging is still taking place on the trial roses. We know this is always a hugely popular event for visitors to the park and are planning for its return next year."
