Rory McIlroy reaffirmed his opposition to LIV Golf players being allowed to compete for Europe in the Ryder Cup.
World number two Jon Rahm felt that players like Sergio Garcia, with whom he established a successful partnership in 2021, should be able to compete in Rome and expressed his regret that "politics have gotten in the way" of the biennial competition.
Garcia is the player with the most points in Ryder Cup history, but he disqualified himself by quitting the DP World Tour after harsher penalties were applied for participating in LIV Golf events without approval.
