Rory McIlroy Fights Back At PGA Championship As Maverick McNealy And Alex Smalley Share Lead

After seven players tied the lead on day one of the PGA Championship, it was another tight affair on day two at Aronimink, as fine margins dictated the difference between some dreaming of glory and others heading home early.

One player in some jeopardy at the start of the day was two-time champion Rory McIlroy.

The wayward drives that at times threatened to derail his Masters triumph a month ago were still evident on Thursday, but several hours at the range after his four-over first round of 74 did the trick.

McIlroy was much more like his old self as he battled to a round of three under to head to the clubhouse on one over, just five back of co-leaders Maverick McNealy and Alex Smalley.

Following his round, McIlroy said he was happy to be in contention, saying: “At five back, I do feel like I'm right in the tournament, and that's really what I wanted to do today was to just get myself back in it, and I feel like I've done that.”

While the six-time Major winner is back on track with two rounds to play, there are plenty more big names between him and the leaders.

One is Cameron Smith, who made his first cut at a Major since the 2024 US Open. Another is Jon Rahm, who, in McIlroy’s group, carded a 70 to sit three back of the leaders.

Others, including Patrick Reed, Ludvig Aberg, defending champion Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Hideki Matsuyama and Chris Gotterup, who had the round of the day with a 65, are also ahead of McIlroy at the halfway stage.

They’re not the only big names harboring realistic hopes of lifting the Wanamaker Trophy, with previous winners Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele level with McIlroy at one over.

McIlroy, who is tied for 30th, wondered if the setup has had a part to play in such a bunched leaderboard.

He said: “The only thing I would say is, I think a bunched leaderboard like this, I think it's a sign of not a great setup, I think when it's as bunched as it is, because it hasn't really enabled anyone to separate themselves.

“I think the setup is fine, like the golf course is good, the pins were tough, and the wind was what it was as well.

"But I just think, yeah, I've always felt like really good setups, it starts to spread the field a bit, and not great setups sort of bring everyone together. I feel like that's what's happened the last two days.”

The two leaders may not be as well known as many of the players in pursuit, but that won’t matter to them as they head out in the final group on day three.

Maverick McNealy co-leads with Alex Smalley (Image credit: Getty Images)

Smalley made a dreadful start to his second round in the morning, with three consecutive bogeys, but he rallied well with four birdies to card a one-under 69.

As for McNealy, who had an afternoon tee time, he briefly reached the rarefied air of six under before being pegged back by bogeys in two of the last four holes to finish with a three-under 67.

While a staggering 44 players are within five of the lead heading into Moving Day, for others, Aronimink’s challenges, which included punitive rough, undulating greens and tough pin positions, proved too much.

In total, 82 players made it to the weekend, but 74 missed the cut, including some big names.

One was two-time US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau. He was up against it after a six-over 76 on Thursday, and while there was improvement in round two, including three birdies to close out proceedings, he finished three beneath the cut line, which was set at four over.

Other big names to miss out include Tommy Fleetwood, who fell short by one, along with Akshay Bhatia, Robert MacIntyre and Wyndham Clark.

US Open champion JJ Spaun missed the cut by two, as did Viktor Hovland, 2011 champion Keegan Bradley and Tyrrell Hatton.

Adam Scott, Joe Highsmith and Billy Horschel were among the other notable names to miss the cut.

However, for those who made it, just eight strokes separate the top from the bottom, as the prospect of glory remains firmly up for grabs.

Live updates from:

WELCOME

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Friday at the 2026 PGA Championship.

We currently have a big number of star names outside of the cut line after a very difficult morning at Aronimink, where the wind has been howling.

The afternoon starters begin in he next couple of hours, including the likes of Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau. They will be battling to make the cut, but will they have easier conditions? Quite possibly.

Follow along all afternoon for live updates.

PGA CHAMPIONSHIP PROJECTED CUT

The cut line is currently at +2, but it will almost certainly move to +3 and perhaps even +4 later.

It's set to be a very entertaining afternoon watching the big names like McIlroy and DeChambeau fight to make their way into the weekend.

PACKED LEADERBOARD

Great stat from Justin Ray:

WEATHER WATCH

It has been a very breezy morning and it is set to remain windy all day according to the PGA's Friday morning forecast:

'THESE GUYS CERTAINLY GOT THE WORST OF THE DRAW'

- says Wayne Riley on the Sky Sports broadcast, who thinks the early-late starters will have the best conditions.

BIG MOVES

Michael Block has just made a birdie to get back to +3, which should be good to make the cut if he stays there.

Moving in the other direction is Keegan Bradley, who has just dropped to +6 after a second bogey in three holes on the 1st (his 10th of the day).

SMALLEY EXTENDS LEAD AT THE TOP

Alex Smalley has just birdied the 7th and 9th to take a two-stroke lead at the top.

The World No.78 has been in fantastic form this year on the PGA Tour with just one missed cut in 12 events, highlighted by a T7 at the Cadillac Championship and T17 at the Truist Championship in his last two starts.

He could well still be around the lead come Sunday afternoon.

POOR DAY FROM AKSHAY BHATIA

The Arnold Palmer Invitational winner will be almost certainly be going home early this week.

He opened with a one-over-par 71 yesterday but has dropped to five-over after five bogeys and just one birdie today.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN WRITING ABOUT?

Check out our latest articles in the Golf Monthly news section for opinion, facts and all you need to know about the 2026 PGA Championship:

WELCOMING MICHAEL WESTON

Over to Michael Weston for the next 90 minutes to keep you up to date with everything from Aronimink.

HIGGO WARMING UP

Garrick Higgo is warming up ahead of the second round. The South African was hit with a two-shot penalty yesterday for being late for his tee time. He was late but on time, he said. Anyway, let's move on from that one.

Back out on the course, we're following some big names. Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Justin Rose are halfway through round two. The World No.1 started the day at -3 but is +2 today. That probably says a little about how tough the conditions are at the moment. It's breezy.

BOGEY FOR FITZ

The former US Open champ holes a five-footer for bogey. It's one of those days where if you're going to have a few of those and so long as you keep the doubles off the card, you'll still feel like you've done a decent enough job.

Scheffler stays at -1 for the tournament. I have a feeling that he if stays there, he won't be too far away at the end of the day. Justin Thomas lets a decent chance go at the 3rd after a lovely second. 'Mr Sweary' going along nicely at even par, however, well placed for a third PGA Championship title.

FLAGS ARE FLAPPING

Encouraging signs for those on the wrong side of the cut line. Well, if you rate yourself. McIlroy will be hoping the conditions remain breezy because he needs a bit of help after yesterday's four-over left him seven off the pace.

LATE BLOCK ERRORS

A bogey, bogey finish for Michael Block (+5). That could hurt the fan favorite. Don't see the cut going to +5. Leaders are at -3.

FOUR PARS IN A ROW

Scheffler makes a nice par, his fourth in a row. Not a day of fireworks, but he's right there, just two shots back. Pars are very good today, just keep ticking them off and see where you are at the end of the day.

ON THE CLOCK?

There's a vehicle shuffling up alongside Justin Thomas and Keegan Bradley. Are they on the clock? Thomas seems to be making some kind of point to the referee. Bradley isn't exactly rapid on the greens. With the breezy conditions, I think this is going to be a log day.

More on that one when we receive news. It could just be a polite word to get a move on.

A GOOD TEST OUT THERE

"This good old golf course is standing up to the best in the world." Luke Donald has praised the Donald Ross-designed Aronimink. He said it's proof that courses don't need to be super long.

He also mentioned that although the fairways have a bit of width to them, the slopes make them hard to find. It's making for an enthralling contest.

CONFIRMED - ON THE CLOCK

HOW SLOW IS IT OUT THERE?

Scottie Scheffler teed off at 1.40pm UK time. We're talking over four hours to play 13 holes. That. Is. Very. Slow. Anyway, Higgo has made it to the tee on time (well done)... He's off.

BLOCK OPTIMISTIC DESPITE POOR FINISH

You've got to love this guy's positivity.

SCHEFFLER BOUNCING BACK

You can't write this man off. Out of sorts on his front nine, a birdie on the 4th gets him back to within one shot of the lead.

THOMAS DIALLED IN

JT responding to being on the clock with an approach that almost goes in. Kick-in birdie there. Matsuyama is safely in the clubhouse after carding a very tidy 67.

MCILROY CHIPPING

He's not off for an hour or so. He's going to need to find the fairways. Goes off the 9th needing a low one. Pundits offering their views. Mine would be that he just had an off day. It happens. A 68 or 69 puts the World No.2 right back in contention.

Four players lead the way at -3 so he's yet to lose any further ground. Scheffler at -2 and scrambles for a good par at the par-3 5th.

ROSE SCRAMBLING

Can't fault the McLaren Golf man's grit - he's fighting out there. Needs a fast finish (a very week pun, there). +3 and has very little wiggle room.

NEW LEADER

Potgieter leads the way on his own at -4. There are few, if any, players longer than the South African. However, he's clearly got all the skills because these putting surfaces are a game within a game.

What's that? A miscue from Scheffler... Well short there on the 6th after what looked to be a heavy strike. Wouldn't back against him chipping it in.

DAY ROLLS ONE IN

The Aussie is off and running with a birdie at the 1st. He walked that 10-footer in. Gets it to -2. As does Chris Gotterup at the 8th.

BOGEY FOR SCHEFFLER

85 yards away with his approach and Scheffler three putts from very long range. Approach to blame - a rare chunk from the best player in the world.

JASON DAY ON THE MOVE

Another beautiful approach at the 2nd from the Australian. Rolls out to about five feet and he'll have that to get to within one shot of the lead.

BEST ROUND OF THE DAY?

Chris Gotterup is coming up the 9th, his final hole, at four-under-par for the day.

A 66 would be the low round of the day and tournament so far.

We thought the Aronimink course record was in danger this week but scoring has been high. I've been loving the course and the test it is providing the world's best.

BIRDIE-BIRDIE START FOR JASON DAY

Day has just started birdie-birdie to move up to three-under-par.

It's great to see the 2015 PGA Champion in contention once more.

BEN KERN - THE LOW CLUB PRO

What a performance from Ben Kern, the general manager at Hickory Hills in Ohio.

Kern is set to become the low club pro as the only member of the Corebridge Financial team to make the weekend with a 36-hole score of +1.

GOTTERUP 65!

The World No. 10 birdies the 9th, his final hole of the day, to shoot a five-under-par 65.

That's the lowest round of the tournament so far, and he did it in the toughest of the conditions. Incredible display.

STRONG START FOR WYNDHAM CLARK

The 2023 US Open champion has started with two consecutive birdies to get back to +3 and inside the cut line.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU UNDERWAY

After a six-over-par 76 yesterday, his highest-score to-par in a PGA Championship, the LIV Golf star needs a big round today.

He hits a beautiful 3-wood straight down the 1st fairway for the perfect start.

Ludvig Aberg (+2) hits a beauty up the left side, also with a 3-wood, before Rickie Fowler steps up and pulls a mini driver into the left rough.

FLEETWOOD TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

The Englishman birdies the 9th, his final hole, to shoot 73 and get in at five-over-par.

That's currently two short of the cut mark.

ROBERT MACINTYRE ALSO IN AT +5

The Scot shot level-par yesterday but a 75 on Friday sees him finish at five-over and two shy of the current cut mark. It is likely one too many.

ROSE IN DANGER

Justin Rose three-putts the par 3 8th hole to fall to five-over-par.

Very poor from the Englishman who could really do with a birdie on the par 5 9th.

GOOD START FOR BRYSON

DeChambeau (+6) hits it to within 8ft at the 1st to set up a much-needed opening birdie.

YOUNG FINISHES WITH EAGLE

Cameron Young eagles the 9th to shoot 67 (-3) and move to two-under-par for the tournament.

One of the tournament favorites is right in the mix heading into the weekend once again.

LOVING ARONIMINK

What a venue this is for a PGA Championship. The old Donald Ross layout is proving incredibly challenging for the world's best, with its undulating greens and thick rough catching many players out.

We thought it would be a birdie-fest but it's been anything but. How wrong we were.

LOW ROUND OF THE WEEK

Incredible score from Gotterup today:

INTRODUCING JAKOB

We have Jakob Barnes keeping you updated for the next couple of hours.

CAMERON YOUNG INTO THE TOP 10

That eagle on the final hole moves Cameron Young up 19 places and into the top 10. Check out his putt:

RORY TEES OFF

After struggling in round one, Rory McIlroy has work to do today to make the cut. He's just teed off for round two but couldn't find the fairway:

ROSE FINDS A WAY

He may have posted a +3 today but Justin Rose just holed out on the last and now looks set to make the cut at the PGA Championship.

SLIGHT SLIP FROM SCOTTIE

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was tied for the lead at the start of the day, but he's not had the best second round.

He scored bogeys on 6, 10, 12, and 13. Birdies on 4, 9, and 17 aren't enough to stop him slipping down the leaderboard.

Scheffler will go into the weekend at -2. If we've learned anything about Scottie by now, though, it's that he will be hunting down the leading pack on Moving Day as always.

SMALLEY KEEPS UP

Alex Smalley was tied for the lead last night, but he's had a funny old round on Friday.

Three bogeys on the first three holes to start the day saw him plummet down the leaderboard, but he's turned it around.

After a birdie on 16 and another on the final hole, the 29-year-old is now four-under and tied for the lead once more as he heads for the clubhouse.

MIN WOO LEE RISES

A birdie on hole 4 sees Min Woo Lee join the leaders on four-under. Can he keep grab a solo lead before the round is over?

PROGRESS FOR RORY

McIlroy makes birdie on the second to go to +3 for the week. It might just be enough to make the cut, too.

NEW OUTRIGHT LEADER

Aldrich Potgieter birdies on nine to go to five-under and take the solo lead:

HISTORY IN THE MAKING

If 21-year-old Aldrich Potgieter can end the day at the top of the leaderboard (including ties) he will become the youngest 36-hole leader at a Major championship since Tiger Woods at the Masters in 1997.

MATT FITZPATRICK DONE FOR THE DAY

In-form Matt Fitzpatrick ends round two with a score of +2. It should be enough to see him make the cut, but he'll need to play a lot better tomorrow if he wants to be anywhere near the top 10 this weekend.

SCHEFFLER LAMENTS 'ABSURD' PINS AT ARONIMINK

Scottie Scheffler claims the pin positions at Aronimink today have been the "hardest" he has ever encountered and says the setup for round two was "absurd".

He shot one-over par today but remains T8 as things stand.

BRYSON FALLS AWAY

Bryson DeChambeau needed a miracle today to make the cut, but he's just bogeyed on hole five and now sits at +7. It would take something really special for him to turn this around now.

BLOCK PLANS TO PLAY PGA CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN

Speaking after his round today, where he shot five-over and missed the cut, Michael Block was in a defiant mood.

Asked whether this will be his final outing at the PGA Championship, the veteran insisted he will qualify for at least one more in the future... and maybe even five more.

PAR SAVE FOR RORY

Rory McIlroy is looking a lot better than yesterday and has now gone par-birdie-par-birdie-par-par through six holes. He's at +2 and is now making the cut as things stand.

NOTHING CAN STOP POTGIETER!

A wayward tee shot. A shaky second. And yet, Aldrich Potgieter remains at five-under after sinking a 20ft putt to save par on 13.

That could be a really important moment for the youngster.

'HARDEST PINS I'VE EVER SEEN'

Scottie Scheffler, speaking to Sky Sports, says the pins today were the hardest he has ever played in his career, pointing out the 14th as the toughest.

RORY MCILROY UPDATE

McIlroy has been superb so far today, with two birdies and four pars on his opening six holes.

He is back to +2 and still just seven off the lead, but he has just missed the par 3 7th green to the right, and will have his work cut out to save par.

JON RAHM IS REALLY IN THIS

It's so good to see Jon Rahm back playing well on the Major stage.

He is safely aboard the par 3 7th and will have a decent look at birdie.

The Spaniard is currently one-under-par. His playing partner, Jordan Spieth (E), has just hit a beauty.

LEADERBOARD IS BUNCHED

As things stand, there are exactly 70 players set to make the cut and all 70 would be within eight strokes. Incredible.

RICKIE FOWLER DROPPING

Fowler, who has the most top-10s in Majors without a win out of anyone in the field (13), has just had a poor finish to his front nine. The six-time PGA Tour winner doubled the 7th and then bogeyed the 8th and has fallen from one-under to two-over in the blink of an eye.

BIRDIE FOR RAHM

Jon Rahm rolls in a 30-footer at the 8th for a 2 to move up to two-under-par.

The LIV star is right in the mix here.

BIG PAR SAVE FOR MCILROY

The Masters champ stays at two-over-par after rolling in a 10-footer to get up-and-down at the 8th. Another big save from the Northern Irishman. Spieth misses his birdie putt and remains at level-par.

POTGIETER STAT

"If the 21-year-old ends the day with at least a share of the lead, he would become the youngest player to hold the 36-hole lead at a Major Championship since Tiger Woods at the 1997 Masters" - via the PGA of America

ALDRICH POTGIETER'S DRIVING STATS THIS YEAR

  • Strokes Gained Off the tee: 4th
  • Driving distance: 1st
  • Clubhead speed: 3rd
  • Driving accuracy: 128th

UNLUCKY FOR THEEGALA

Sahith Theegala (-3) has just hit out of the fairway bunker on 10, hit the tree in front before finding his ball...once 3-minutes had expired.

He has to drop it back in the bunker and play it as his fourth shot. Ouch.

RAHM'S BIRDIE ON 8:

CUT LINE HAS MOVED

The cut line has dropped to four-over-par now.

There are currently 85 players at +4 or better.

THEEGALA TRIPLE

After not being able to find his ball within 3 minutes following his fairway bunker shot on 10, Sahith Theegala went on to make a triple bogey.

It dropped him down from three-under back to level-par.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU UPDATE

The LIV star has just birdied the 9th to get back to +9.

He is out in 38 (+3) today and needs a very special back nine to make the cut. If not, it will be his second successive missed cut in a Major this year - bizarre considering he has won twice in the LIV Golf League.

MISSES FOR MCILROY AND RAHM

Both Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm fail to birdie the par 5 9th after hitting 340 yard drives down the middle.

Still, both will be very happy with their day's work so far.

Rahm is at -2, with McIlroy at +2.

LUDVIG ABERG UPDATE

For the Ludvig Aberg fans out there - or backers (he was my main pick in the GM Tour Issue Podcast Tipster's Challenge this week) - he is one-under for his front nine with eight pars and one bogey, and currently +1 for the tournament. That has him in T34th as things stand.

MCILROY CHILLING

Rory McIlroy is currently sat down resting up against an advertisement board waiting on the 10th tee. The pace of play is glacial today, with rounds taking up to six hours.

GARRICK HIGGO...

The South African has done a lot for his brand this week, as the amount of coverage he has received from missing his tee time has undoubtedly increased fans' awareness of him.

But he is currently outside of the cut line by one stroke. He'd be one stroke inside if he arrived at the tee a little earlier on Thursday morning...

FIRST BOGEY OF THE DAY FOR POTGIETER

Not the greatest timing for Aldrich Potgieter. He's just made his first bogey of the day at the 17th to lose the solo lead. He's back to four under with Alex Smalley and Maverick McNealy.

RORY TAKING IT EASY

Does this image sum up the slow pace of the play in the second round?

MCNEALY TAKES SOLO LEAD

Maverick McNealy makes his second consecutive birdie at the 2nd (his 11th) to lead by one.

CUT LINE MOVES

The cut line has moved from +4 to +3, meaning there are now 70 above it.

SETBACK FOR XANDER

Xander Schauffele is a big name in the hunt. The 2024 champion was one under going to the 10th (the hardest hole today), but he's bogeyed it to slip back one and is now five back of leader Maverick McNealy.

CLOSE FOR CAM SMITH

Cameron Smith remains level-par after narrowly missing a birdie putt at the 14th. He should still make the cut though, and that will be progress after recent Majors. He's missed the cut in the last six.

SOLID FROM MCILROY

McIlroy's driving was wayward at The Masters, and it was during the first round yesterday.

He's like a different player off the tee today, and finds the fairway with his latest at the 11th. He remains on +2, just one above the cut line.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU UPDATE

DeChambeau's day goes from bad to worse with another bogey at the 11th.

That leaves him on +10 and surely heading out of the tournament.

LOWRY FALLS BELOW CUT LINE

The cut line moved to +3 a few minutes ago and one big name helpless to do anything about it is Shane Lowry. He headed to the clubhouse on +4, and now he'll be praying the cut line moves back in his favor to extend his week.

CUT LINE MOVES AGAIN

And just like that, Lowry gets a temporary reprieve! The cut line moves back to +4 and he, and others, breathe a sigh of relief.

AGONY FOR RORY AT 11

At the 11th, a beautiful long putt from McIlroy almost finds the hole but runs out of gas a revolution short. That would have taken him to +1

RAHM MAKES A MOVE

Jon Rahm hasn't shone in too many Majors in recent times, but he's well in contention here.

The Spaniard makes a birdie at the 11th to move to -3 and just two off the lead.

ERROR OFF THE TEE FROM RAHM

Just when Rahm moves firmly into the conversation, he sends his tee shot at the 12th way right. McIlroy fares better, finding the fairway.

NOT QUITE FOR LEADER

At the 4th, leader Maverick McNealy has a long putt for birdie, but that just stops short and he'll remain at -5.

WELL PLAYED, JON

After his wild tee shot at the 12th, Jon Rahm saves par to stay at -3.

MORE TROUBLE OFF THE TEE FOR RAHM

For the second hole in a row, Rahm sends his tee shot right at the 13th, giving a withering look as his ball flies into the rough.

ONLY JORDAN SPIETH...

MAGIC MAVERICK

The leader Maverick McNealy moves two clear with a birdie at the 5th (his 14th)!

RAHM BOGEY

Rahm was out of position off the tee at 13, and ultimately he faces a long putt to save par. He doesn't a now he's back to -2.

MCILORY ADDS BUFFER

McIlroy's position looks even safer now with a birdie at the 12th to move to +1, three clear of the cut line.

MISSTEP FROM MAVERICK

There aren't too many better putters than Maverick McNealy, but he makes a rare error at 6 (his 15th), missing a shot putt to save par. That means he's back to -5.

SAFELY HOME FOR CAMERON SMITH

Cameron Smith finishes his round in style with a long birdie putt to get back to even.

He makes the cut at a Major for the first time since the 2024 US Open.

LEADER STAYS STEADY

Maverick McNealy's slender lead over Alex Smalley stays intact with par at 7. He's on -5 with Smalley on -4.

MCILROY FINDING HIS GROOVE

McIlroy with a birdie putt at the 15th. It misses by a whisker and he'll remain on +1, but that shouldn't take away from what is a good day for the two-time champion. He's not out of this by a long shot, just six back and with the familiar bounce in his step beginning to show signs of life.

LUDVIG LOOKING GOOD

It's been a good back nine for Ludvig Aberg, with four birdies to move to -2. It's so nearly -3 but another chance lips out at the 17th.

TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE FOR DECHAMBEAU

Bryson DeChambeau his finally found some rhythm and makes back-to-back birdies at the 16th and 17th

It adds a degree of respectability to his score at +8, but he's still four behind the cut line with just one to play.

TEE TROUBLE HITS RAHM

You get the feeling that if Jon Rahm is to win this week, he needs to be better off the tee than his back nine today.

After two earlier tee shots went far to the right, now he finds the left rough at 16, an outcome that sees him allow his club to drop to the floor after his swing. He's hanging in there on -1, but he'll be taking a look at the issue between now and tomorrow.

MCNEALY SLIPS UP

After a toe shot off the putter at 8, McNealy leaves a tricky par putt, and it narrowly misses. He's now ties for the lead with Alex Smalley at -4.

GREAT FROM GREYSERMAN

What a way for Max Greyserman to finish his round! He wraps up with an eagle to move to -3, just one back of the lead.

RAHM FRUSTRATION

Jon Rahm has made two bogeys in his last three holes, but a chance to move to -2 presents itself at the 16th. It stays out though, while McIlroy also makes par and on they go to the 17th.

WELL DONE, RICKIE

Rickie Fowler saves a par with a brilliant long putt at 18 and he's just five behind the leaders. Another to keep an eye on, as he's been in good form recently too.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU MISSES CUT

Well, he finished with a flourish, but for Bryson DeChambeau, his three consecutive birdies to close out his tournament will offer little consolation.

He finishes on +7, three beneath the cut line, but at least that finale will give him something to work with as he builds towards the US Open.

KOEPKA INTO WEEKEND

Three-time PGA Champion Brooks Koepka is safely into the weekend on +1.

SPIETH IN THE MIX

Jordan Spieth is the other player in McIlroy and Rahm's group, and he's also not to be written off just yet. He's on +1, just five back in pursuit of the win that would complete his career Grand Slam.

MCNEALY FINISHES WITH CO-LEAD

Maverick McNealy finishes with a par to ensure he's in the final group tomorrow. He's level with Alex Smalley on -4.

MCILROY, RAHM AND SPIETH HOME WITH PARS

McIlroy, Rahm and Spieth all finish with pars. That leaves McIlroy on +1, five off the lead and tied with Spieth, with Rahm on -1. All three are still well in the hunt with two rounds to play.
