Rory McIlroy is relishing his return to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth as he targets the unique double of winning the FedEx Cup and ending the season as European number one.

McIlroy overturned a six-shot deficit in the final round of the Tour Championship a fortnight ago to become the first player to win the FedEx Cup three times and take home a cheque worth a staggering $18 million.

The four-time major winner also tops the DP World Tour rankings – formerly known as the Race to Dubai – and holds a decent lead over the injured Will Zalatoris, who will play no golf this week as a result of two herniated discs in his back, and reigning US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick.
