Roosters No.7 takes second Karyn Muphy Medal in GF win

Tarryn Aiken has put herself back in the window for Australian World Cup selection by claiming her second Karyn Murphy Medal in the Sydney Roosters' dominant NRLW grand final win.

After missing last year's decider with a knee injury and watching helplessly as her team went down to Brisbane, the half was able to exact revenge this time around.

The Tricolours stifled their opposition across the park as they completed a comprehensive 30-6 victory at Accor Stadium on Sunday to cap an undefeated season.

"I'm just so proud of everyone, one hell of a season undefeated, a special mention to Corbs (Corban Baxter) and Mill (Millie Elliott) going out on top," Aiken said after being presented the player of the match award.

"I'd just like to thank the Broncos for a great game and a great season, specially Ali (Brigginshaw) on a great career."

Aiken's star showing - alongside halves partner Jocelyn Kelleher - came ahead of Australia naming their World Cup squad on Monday.

The playmaker missed out on Jillaroos selection last year as a result of her knee injury.

"There's a lot of good halves at other clubs but they're a great combination," said Roosters coach John Strange.

"They have different strengths and today you could see out there how they play, they've been connecting this year.

"We've worked on a different attacking gameplan in good ball and they've jumped on that.

"It's like they're giving each other nods. It's less of a verbal it's more cues to know when to jump off the ball. They'd certainly do the green and gold jersey proud."

Aiken's previous grand final performance also netted her the medal in 2024 when the Roosters beat Cronulla.

The halfback scored the second try of the afternoon on Sunday when she chased through her own grubber kick, then put Isabelle Kelly over with a short pass after a wrap-around set play from a scrum.

Nothing could stop the No.7, delivering a perfectly placed cross-field kick, even as she was slammed in a tackle, to set up a try for Jayme Fressard.

By the 23rd minute, the Roosters had run up an 18-0 lead and the game already felt over.

Aiken combined well wiith Kelleher to control the match, several excellent kicks from both players piling the pressure on the hapless Broncos.
