And the news has shocked the carpenter's home town of Enniscorthy in Wexford.
Dermot took to Instagram to pay tribute to the talented tradesman.
He told followers: "Devastated to hear that kind, gentle, unbelievably talented Karl Cullen has tragically died so young, he played a huge part on Room to Improve over the years creating some of the most beautiful joinery, a fantastic problem solver, enthusiastic collaborator and an all round wonderful soul."
He added: "Heartbroken for his parents Karl and Annette, his brothers Darren and Diarmuid and all his family."
Gardai in the area have reportedly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesperson told the Sunday World: "Gardaí in Enniscorthy are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.”
Any person who was travelling on the R744 outside Enniscorthy, through Clonhaston, on Sunday evening between 7.15pm and 7.40pm is asked to contact investigating gardaí.
A notice on RIP.ie read: "Beloved son of Karl and Annette and loving brother of Darren and Diarmuid. Sadly missed by his heartbroken family, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, friends and work colleagues in Karl Cullen Fitted Kitchens."
