Roof ripped off garage as high winds battered Scotland through the night

The roof of a Scots garage has been blown off after high winds battered the country throughout the night.

Police were called to East Hamilton Road in Greenock at around 6.10am on Wednesday morning after the roof was spotted hanging off the derelict Arnold Clark garage.

Locals are advised to stay away, as heavy traffic was seen building in the area. There has been no injuries reported at this stage.

Police Scotland remain in attendance at the scene this morning.

Part of the A8 was locked down by cops this morning but it is believed the road has now reopened.

A spokesperson for the force said: "East Hamilton Road in Greenock is closed after a roof was blown off a derelict building.

"Police were called around 6.10am on Wednesday, 1 February, 2023.

"Officers are currently in attendance and the public is being asked to avoid the area. No-one has been injured."
