Ronnie Scott’s is not simply a London stalwart, it is perhaps THE most iconic music venue in the capital. It has so much jazz history that it’s a fool’s game to start listing names who’ve played there since it opened in 1959 (oh just a few then: Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Buddy Rich, Jimi Hendrix), and remains a kind of filling station for any kind of music fan, a place to drop in whenever you need a hit of the good pure stuff.
As London nightlife seems to be continually under threat, it is therefore a joy to find Ronnie’s not simply surviving but revamping and expanding. Upstairs at Ronnie’s has this week relaunched with a stunning new refurbishment – and this is far from the end of the new developments.
