Ronan O'Gara suggests Munster snag in confirming new coaching ticket ahead of summer break

Ronan O'Gara speculates that Munster may have experienced a road-block in putting together a new management team.

But the former Reds great insists the playing squad that has returned from South Africa on the back of two losses will not be affected by the wait.

It was on December 15th that the province announced that head coach Johann van Graan is leaving in the summer for the Bath hot-seat. Later, it was confirmed that his defence coach JP Ferreira would also be departing for the Rec.

Over three months on, forwards coach Graham Rowntree has signed a new deal but there has been no further announcement from the province on a new coaching set-up for next season.

O'Gara, who has dismissed any link with his former province as he is in his first year as La Rochelle's head coach, said: "I've no idea how it works really because with my involvement, the coaching (set-up) can be progressed very quickly if you know who you want and why you want it.

"So for me, there's obviously been a delay in trying to get their man - or a delay in trying to put their ticket together.

"But that's only stabbing in the dark with a wide assumption. I have no idea, I don't have any contacts in the set-up for who could inform me on that."

As the Reds tackle the mission of winning silverware for the first time since 2010, with a Champions Cup last 16 clash with Toulouse to come and with the expectation of making the URC play-offs once more, O'Gara says that the situation at coaching level won't disrupt the players' goals.

"No, the players are short term focused," he remarked.

"They have enough on their plate trying to give their energy to getting better individually and collectively, especially considering some of the results that Munster have had.

"They know there's a change of coach in the summer, for some they'll be delighted, for others it won't have any impact on them at all and when the new boss comes in, they'll judge him because that's what players do."
