Romelu Lukaku's Inter Milan wish could come true as Serie A outfit take major transfer step

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has been linked with a return to Inter Milan. The Blues forward struggled in his first full season since moving back to Stamford Bridge for around £97.5m, scoring just eight Premier League goals in the process.

The Nerazzurri's financial situation facilitated the deal to Chelsea, and it was fairly evident that Lukaku would have remained in Italy had he been offered a new deal.

In what was an extremely controversial interview in December - and one that saw Lukaku dropped by Thomas Tuchel for a small period of time - the Belgian said he plans to make a move back to the Serie A one day.

He told Sky Sports: "I really hope with all my heart to be able to return to Inter one day and not at the end of my career. I would like to return when I am still at high levels to try to win even more with the Nerazzurri shirt."

Lukaku said of his position at Chelsea: "However, I cannot say that I am happy with the situation, this is normal. I think that Tuchel has chosen to play with another module, and I just have to not give up, continue to work and be a professional."

Even though the incident was largely forgotten about in the second half of the campaign - especially after the takeover news dominated the Blues' headlines - it seems as though Lukaku could get his transfer wish.

That's because according to reports in Italian outlet Corriere.it, as cited by SempreInter, Inter are set to meet with Sebastien Ledure, a lawyer representing Lukaku, regarding a possible move this week. The report adds that the Nerazzurri will discuss possible wage terms for a loan move from the Blues.

Lukaku will probably have to take a substantial wage cut, but no terms have been agreed upon yet, and there's ultimately a long way to go with this one.
