Romelu Lukaku has admitted that there's 'anger inside of him' after his second spell with Chelsea resulted in abject failure.
The Belgian striker returned to Stamford Bridge last summer for a club-record £97.5million fee but only managed to score 15 goals and made more headlines off the pitch than on it. Most notably, Lukaku's thinly-veiled suggestions about immediately wanting to return to Inter Milan during a bombshell interview midway through the season helped derail Chelsea's campaign, having also questioned manager Thomas Tuchel 's tactics.
Now back at Inter on loan, the 29-year-old - who came through the Blues' academy and hoped for a fairytale return - has opened up on his nightmare with west London, laying bare his frustrations in another candid interview in which he vows to come back to Italy better than ever. "The season at Chelsea has given me more motivation to do even better than before," Lukaku affirmed DAZN Italia, via Calciomercato.
"I think that in a year everyone has forgotten some things that I am able to do in the field. That's some kind of anger that I have inside of me. Which now the team also has, which did not win last year: all together we hope to do better and bring something home."
Asked if he was wrong to leave the San Siro 12 months ago, the Belgium international explained: "So many things. I think that before, when I left, I wanted to take this revenge at Chelsea because when I was young, they had been my team for 11 years. I had the opportunity to go back there and think I was the protagonist, but it wasn't like that.
"In March, when I learned there was an opportunity to come back here, I didn't say anything, but towards the end of the season we did a great job with the club and I was able to come back here. I only reflect at the end of the season, so after the last game I started to think about my situation alone.

"I saw that as a player with Inter I did well, the season at Chelsea was difficult for me. I had no doubts, that's why I made the decision to come back here."
Lukaku is still Chelsea's player, of course, as his loan deal with the Nerazzurri only lasts until the end of this season. Tuchel has even noted how the ex- West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Manchester United striker could return to west London next term.
"Given the fact he's just on loan, of course there's a chance," the Blues boss told Sky Sports. "I don't know if it's very likely, but it's not on me to give an outlook on that. There is a chance for it."
