Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has detailed Romelu Lukaku's "unacceptable" behaviour which saw the club pull the plug on a deal to sign the Chelsea outcast during the summer.
The Nerazzurri wanted to bring Lukaku back to San Siro after a successful loan spell. Inter, Chelsea and the striker held numerous rounds of talks until the player went quiet amid secret talks with Juventus.
Inter were left furious and Ausilio has revealed the "firm call" he held with Lukaku after finally getting hold of the player after days of silence. Lukaku's move to Juve then collapsed and is now playing for Roma where he has five goals in eight league games.
"I prefer not to talk about a player who is at another club, I’ve never done so in recent months," Ausilio told Radio Serie A.
"I’m just saying that I like to think about the present and the future, and Lukaku is part of the past. With him we won a Scudetto, he brought us a significant capital gain, and we lost two finals.
“I’m just saying that there must be education and respect, things were moving forward, it’s evident, but at a certain point they stopped. There are operations that don’t go through, but if there is respect, it’s never a problem.
“However, when you hide or send answers through other people you think about moving on. For me it’s a closed chapter since July 8, there’s no regrets.”
He added: “It was a firm call [when we got hold of him], but nothing special. I told Romelu what I thought, after I couldn’t hear him for some time.”
