Romantic £310 luxury train journey loved by Liverpudlians

A romantic, luxury train journey that costs £310 per person is proving popular in Liverpool.

The Brief Encounter 'Love Train' sets off next month from Crewe and picks up passengers at Warrington before arriving at Liverpool. It then departs from Lime Street before embarking on a four hour return journey.

The vast majority of tickets have been snapped up by Liverpudlians, keen to drink in the swanky experience. The posh train trip allows passengers to see where the classic 1940s film Brief Encounter was filmed.

Bosses of the luxury Northern Belle train have been left astonished by the demand for the journey, which includes a champagne reception and a seven-course lunch, made up of a British seasonal table d'hôte menu. Couples will also receive a bottle of wine, as well as tea, coffee and petits fours while a table magician provides further entertainment.

The journey includes a stop at Carnforth station; restored to its 1940's glory and the setting for the iconic film Brief Encounter. The station is one of Lancashire's most picturesque, offering idyllic views.

Passengers will be able to visit the heritage centre, dance on the platform accompanied by Northern Belle's house band, or even share a kiss under the famous station clock, like stars Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson did. Alternatively, ticket holders can stay onboard and enjoy all the fun from the comfort of their seat.

Businessman David Pitts, who bought the train from the legendary Orient Express group, said: "We never realised that people from Merseyside were such big romantics. But Brief Encounter is a lovely film and we can promise passengers a wonderful day out."

The Northern Belle, with its 1930s-style Pullman carriages, will be back in the city later in May for a trip to Cardiff Castle, offering people the opportunity to visit the Marquess of Bute's Gothic mansion. This trip featured on Channel 5's 'The World’s Greatest Railway Journeys' programme last year, with famed actor Bill Nighy describing the Belle as “the Grand Duchess of luxury train travel”.

The Love Actually star described his journey through the Welsh countryside as “a railway experience that harks back to the halcyon days of travel”. He added passengers were “lapping up all that this luxury train has to offer”.

The sold-out journey takes place on Friday, May 6. For details on more journeys and excursions, click here.
