VISAKHAPATNAM: Rookie off-spinner Shoaib Bashir received his Test cap from Jack Leach and had a memorable first day in the office.
Summoned to bowl the 12th over the innings on Friday, the 20-year-old showed none of the nerves associated with the big stage. He conceded just a single and soon was celebrating his first wicket, that of Rohit Sharma, who flicked Bashir uppishly and straight to Ollie Pope at leg slip.
"Rohit Sharma for my first wicket is very, very special. He is a great player of spin," gushed Bashir.
The Somerset offie who overcame travel issues due to his Pakistani origin said he was always confident that the visa would come through. "It was a little bit of a hassle. I always knew it was going to be sorted," Bashir said.
