Rohan Smith has confirmed Leeds Rhinos are actively looking to bolster their forward pack ahead of next season.
The Rhinos have accepted losing rising star Sam Walters, who looks to be joining Wigan Warriors. While the club intend to replace Liam Tindall internally, Smith confirmed their search to replace Walters will lead them to the open market.
Asked about the specific areas the Rhinos will be looking to recruit, Smith confirmed their plans focus was on adding to their pack roster in time for 2024, although there is a realisation that most clubs in the competition are in the same boat.

"As far as middle unit players go, we certainly are in the market for middles," said Smith. "We were prior to Sam (Walters) making his decision, we don't have middle unit players ready to step up to Super League next year from our academy program. I think that's a pretty well-worn statement from all clubs; everyone is chasing middles."
Asked about the current quota situation with plenty of overseas stars coming to the end of their Headingley contract, Smith held his cards close to his chest. Fully focusing on the here and now, Leeds supporters may have to bide their time for any official announcements.
"Recruitment and retention is a daily process in every club. I understand there is an appetite for media and fans to talk about who is staying and going. We will provide updates when they're ready. For now, I'm focused on getting some regular performances, and that starts with St Helens."
