Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has shared a positive injury update regarding his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury which ruled him out for the season. The 25-year-old ruptured the ligament in the second half of Spurs' Premier League defeat at Leicester City in February after turning his knee awkwardly during a challenge.
The Uruguay international, who had scored earlier in the game, then had to wait for the swelling to subside before any further treatment could take place. football.london understands that Bentancur underwent successful surgery in Spain just days after his injury at the hands of a top surgeon, with the midfielder working hard during his rehabilitation period with Tottenham's medical staff to make a comeback next term.
The average recovery time taken for an ACL injury can be anywhere between seven and nine months. This would see the Uruguay international return in September if he recovers on schedule.

Bentancur has offered an update on his rehabilitation progress in a post on his Instagram story. The 25-year-old shared videos of his work in the Tottenham gym with the caption: "34 days less! *muscle emojis*."
Following his injury, Spurs released a statement which read: "We can confirm that Rodrigo Bentancur has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out of action for the remainder of the campaign. He will undergo surgery before beginning his rehabilitation with our medical staff.
"We're all behind you, Rodrigo! *heart emoji*."
Bentancur had been one of Spurs' best players this season and his injury came as a huge blow in the season. When the Uruguayan returns to action, it will be under a new manager after Antonio Conte was relieved of his duties during the international break.
