Rodri injury: Man City confirm ligament damage to knee after specialist consultation

Manchester City have confirmed Rodri suffered a serious knee injury against Arsenal.

The midfielder appeared to jar his knee in the turf at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday while tussling off the ball with Thomas Partey, and immediately collapsed to the pitch in agony. After medical assessment, he hobbled off the pitch.

Reports of a possible season-ending injury followed on Monday, which led to Pep Guardiola, the City manager, explaining on Tuesday that there had been conflicting assessments from doctors.

Rodri traveled to Spain to seek specialist consultation following initial tests in Manchester and a City statement has now confirmed ligament damage.

The statement read: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee.

“The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League. The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.

“Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis. Everyone at the Club wishes him a speedy recovery and [the club] will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation.”

City have lost 33.3 per cent of Premier League games without Rodri since he joined the club in 2019. The loss rate reduces to just 10.9% when Rodri plays.
