Rodgers delivers huge Celtic injury update on key duo Maeda & Kuhn

Brendan Rodgers has stated Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn are set to be fit for Celtic's league curtain-raiser next week.

The Parkhead club kick-off their new Scottish Premiership season on Sunday against Kilmarnock but there had been fears over injuries in pre-season to the wing duo.

However, Rodgers shrugged off the concerns following Celtic's 4-1 win over Chelsea in their final US tour fixture.

The Celtic boss revealed Kuhn was left out as a precaution over a sore back while Maeda was forced off in the first half after a knee collision.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Rodgers said: “Nicolas was stretching in training and felt a sore back. He probably needs a few days.

“Daizen was just a clash of knees and there’s no need to risk anything at this stage of the season. Hopefully he’ll be okay when we get back.”

" I think it is a great way to finish off the tour. I just said to the players afterwards that all the work they have done and how they represented the club in their time here has been absolutely brilliant.

"They can take great pride in that  Also on the pitch,  how we have played and how we have devoted the mindset to the work and the intensity of the games has been great. I know big teams don't want to lose games pre-season or not.

"In terms of performance, I think we got what you would want from a top team structure, you've got talent in the team and then you have work. That mentality to work and run with talent and structure gives you a great chance.

"This last preparation phase over the last 12 days has gone as well as what it possibly could have done. "
