Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster defended his Platinum Party performance as she appeared on Loose Women today.
Rod Stewart was one of the most highly anticipated acts at the Queen's Platinum Party concert but many fans watching questioned his set list. People were quick to ask why Rod performed Sweet Caroline, a song that is not his, considering he has such a huge catalogue of hits to choose from.
Rod said "the BBC made me sing this one" and asked fans to "join in and make it comfortable for me", but viewers weren't having it.

His wife, Penny Lancaster, joined the Loose Women panel today to confirm Rod had no control over his song choices but "didn't want to upset his fans." She also cleared up concerns over his voice, saying he had contracted covid not too long ago and was still suffering from its effects.
She said: "He lost his voice on the Wednesday. For the soundcheck, he went along and wore a mask but had no voice. He went for another rehearsal on the Friday and it was touch and go. His voice is there now but it wasn't quite on.
"He didn't want to disappoint anybody. It wasn't the Rod Stewart show, it was a show for the nation, for the Queen, for everybody to come together so he could please these people so [Sweet Caroline] was the song. And it brought everyone together."
