Rod Stewart announces special Edinburgh concert in honour of his dad ahead of Father's Day

Just days before Father's Day, Sir Rod Stewart has announced a very special show in Edinburgh this November in honour of his dad.

The announcements comes as the singer prepares to release the heartfelt video for his song, Touchline - a track dedicated to his father, Robert.

Speaking about song, he said: “If you know anything about me you know that our dad’s love of football has most definitely left its impact on me and my brothers and I’m delighted that it’s now such an important part of my children’s lives as well.

He added: "The song Touchline was my tribute to him and I’m so happy and moved that the new video takes that to the ultimate level just in time for Father’s Day.

"We just played a magnificent show at the Hollywood Bowl which has me excited for both our North American and UK tours and it’s terrific that we’ll be able to have both NHS workers and doctors and nurses who have been on the front lines these last couple of years as our guests!”

As the Daily Record reports, another thoughtful move comes as it's been confirmed that select tickets across the tour will be donated to NHS frontline workers.

The full video for Touchline will be released on Friday just after Sir Rod unveiled a stunning teaser video.

Taken from his acclaimed 31st studio album The Tears Of Hercules, Touchline and the accompanying video are a dedication to Leith and his Edinburgh-born father, Robert.

Sir Rod, 77, describes his as “a scotsman and plumber by trade” in the lyrics, as well as speaking beautifully of Robert's love for football, his eventual passing and watching over him and his family forever.

In Touchline, Rod sings: “Now it's my time on the side in the rain and watch my boys play the beautiful game.”

“And sometimes, sometimes I look up to the clouds and I say ‘Dad I hope you're looking down, cause if it wasn't for you, all this might not have been.’”

Following the release of his 31st studio album The Tears of Hercules, Sir Rod Stewart is on the road again this year with a massive UK tour.

He will be kicking off in Nottingham on November 16 with additional stops at, London, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester before concluding In Newcastle in December.
