Rocket League launches Easy Anti-Cheat on PC, folds fan-favourite BakkesMod features into the base game

Rocket League has officially rolled out Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) for PC players, introducing the much-requested feature in an update on April 28, 2026. Developed by Epic Online Services, EAC is now required for all online play on PC. Notably, Steam Deck and Linux users are also supported, quelling some fears from players on those platforms about the anti-cheat breaking compatibility.

As explained in the developer’s blog post announcing the update, EAC runs silently in the background, using “advanced behavioral analysis and proactive detection techniques” to prevent cheating and botting. If a violation is detected mid-match, the match is cancelled without any impact on the players’ Matchmaking Rating (MMR). According to the developers, EAC also gets smarter over time to catch new cheating tactics as they emerge.

Beyond EAC, Psyonix is increasing the frequency of bot ban waves and shipping a new “significantly more accurate” bot detection method later this quarter. Offending accounts will also see Competitive Rewards removed to discourage both smurfing and account selling.

What does Easy Anti-Cheat mean for Mods?

The introduction of EAC means that community mods can no longer be used in online game modes. Instead, players will have to specifically launch the game in an “Anti-Cheat Disabled” mode to enjoy mod support at the cost of online play. This means that fan-favourite mods like BakkesMod will no longer be available in online sessions. Instead, Psyonix is bringing the most important features of those mods directly into the game itself.

This work builds on the foundation laid by our community modders, so thank you to Bakkes and all of the BakkesMod plugin volunteer developers who have shaped how people play.

The developers highlighted native MMR display, Custom Training Randomization, and Free Play Team Colors as the headline features shipping with the EAC update. Other mods, including those used on top of Steam Workshop maps, will require disabling EAC to run.

Rocket League adds tools for Creators and Tournament Organizers

For tournament organizers and creators who’ve built broadcasts using overlay plugins such as SimpleAOB’s, Rocket League now offers a built-in StatsAPI feature allowing direct access to the game’s data for broadcasts. Alongside the StatsAPI, a new setting has also been added allowing players to toggle the visibility of the in-game HUD, so broadcasters can overlay their own assets cleanly on top.

The EAC rollout is a significant step for Rocket League’s competitive integrity, one that Epic had already applied to its other titles including Fortnite. While the removal of mods will take a while to get used to, the update overall brings substantial quality-of-life improvements to the game to make the transition smoother for players and broadcasts alike.
