Rochelle Humes shared her daughter Alaia-Mai’s adorable reaction after she met the Princess of Wales at an event on Monday (January 30).

The nine-year-old couldn’t contain her excitement after she spoke with Kate Middleton and Prince William as they launched the next stage of her Shaping Us campaign at BAFTA London.

Humes took to Instagram to share the proud moment, which saw her wrapping her arm around her daughter’s shoulders, smiling down at her while the youngster was filled with glee.

The 33-year-old looked chic in a chocolate satin maxi dress and complemented the number with a pair of dark court heels while her eldest daughter donned a cute floral dress with white tights.

Talking during the event, the former Saturdays singer revealed the real reason she had brought her daughter to the event “on a school night”.

Looking at Kate, Humes quipped: “There’s only one reason that she’s here and… it’s your hair. ‘She has the best hair, mum!’”

During her speech the This Morning presenter also spoke of being brought up by her mother, a single parent, sharing: “She [my mother] taught me, protected me, cuddled me when I was upset and – please believe me – in equal measure corrected me when I was wrong.

“She taught me that anything was possible and that if you don’t ask, you don’t get.”

Other stars in attendance at the event included Fearne Cotton, Zara McDermott, Kate Silverton, Lionesses captain Leah Williamson, Professor Green and his fiancée Karima McAdams.

The Princess of Wales‘ project, Shaping Us, is an ambitious campaign aimed at raising the profile of the early years development of children to highlight the significance of the formative years of a child’s life.

The long-term project, launched on Tuesday by the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, is said to be Kate’s “life’s work”, which she hopes will influence attitudes towards children in the early years period of their lives.

During her speech at the event the princess outlined the scope of the campaign, describing it as a “long-term” project, beginning with how a child develops and the importance of these formative years.

It will go on to “explore in more depth the importance of a child’s social and emotional world” and the significance of relationships and “surroundings and experiences”.
