Robinson in ambitious St Mirren Euro goal as he salutes 'fantastic' supporters

Ambitious Stephen Robinson has insisted there is no reason St Mirren cannot keep progressing in Europe after dumping Valur out of the Conference League.

The Paisley club will face Norwegian club SK Brann in the third qualifying round of the competition after their 4-1 triumph in Paisley - while Brann toppled Go Ahead Eagles.

“We face a tough task now but if we play with that level of performance and control then there’s no reason why we can't do better again to progress," said the manager after a historic return to European football for St Mirren after 37 years absent.

“We’ve given ourselves the opportunity. We wanted to represent Scottish football in a good manner and I believe we’ve done that.

"I’m delighted for all the players and staff who have put so much effort into it.

“There are a lot of people here who have put a lot of work into this football club long before I was here. They’ve seen bad times and good times.

"And these are the moments you have to savour as a fan and it’s important that you do that.

“I believe the fans milked every last moment of it tonight and probably still will be in bars and homes around Paisley. So we’re delighted for them.”

On the momentous occasion - with a fan corteo to the stadium, a TIFO across all four stands and booming backing throughout, he added: "It was fantastic. A great display at the start with a lot of work that people don't see.

"Great respect for them. The atmosphere in the stadium was brilliant, even when we got a bit tired and they scored the penalty.

"The fans rallied behind us and that's massive. It shows the club is so together and the fans are enjoying what we're doing.

"The atmosphere here is great at this time."
