Robin Koch 'tried not to think about' Leeds United transfer question

Leeds United defender Robin Koch has claimed he did not give his future any thought during the club’s relegation battle last season. The Whites stayed in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth as they defeated Brentford 2-1 on the final day to beat the drop.

Jesse Marsch’s side had entered the last game of the season with destiny out of their own hands and having to rely on results elsewhere. But thanks to Newcastle’s win at Burnley, and Leeds’ victory at Brentford, Koch and his teammates secured another season of Premier League football.

Had Leeds have gone down, it is likely that several players would have departed given the amount of internationals in the squad. Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha left in the summer even with top-flight football secured, while the likes of Rodrigo Moreno, Diego Llorente, Patrick Bamford and Koch all have aspirations to play at the World Cup later this year for some of the most elite national teams.

Speaking in an interview with Bild, Koch admitted that remaining in the Premier League was vital, but insisted he did not give his future any thought even when the club’s situation was precarious.

He said: “That's a good question. I've tried not to think too much about it. My agent and I were very much in agreement that we should focus solely on the situation at Leeds.

“Of course it was important for me that we managed to stay up. I feel very comfortable here and still have a lot of goals with the club.”
