Robin Gosens admits he considered Newcastle United offer ahead of Inter Milan transfer

Robin Gosens has discussed Newcastle United's January approach and admits the big-money offer could have 'secured a few generations of my family'.

The German international agreed a loan switch to Serie A champions Inter Milan from domestic rivals Atalanta on a loan deal which could be made permanent if certain conditions are met.

Newcastle were understood to be interested in the 27-year-old, who has netted 22 times from wing-back in the previous two seasons in Italy.

Gosens had also impressed with his country at Euro 2020, but has since sidelined by a long-term hamstring injury.

Eddie Howe ultimately landed Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett on loan on deadline day, as well as the permanent signing of Brighton defender Dan Burn.

Days before the window closed and with the formalities of the deal being wrapped up, Gosens' agent simply replied 'because it's Inter' when asked why his client had turned down other approaches.

However, when asked about Newcastle's mid-season offer himself, Gosens now admits the financial terms on offer meant he seriously considered a switch to St James' Park.

Gosens told German magazine Kicker via Inside Futbol: “I find it very human to think about it.

“If you can earn a multiple for the same job in a different locations, show me someone who just says ‘no thanks’ to that.

“It’s not just about me. I could probably have secured a few generations of my family with this money.”
