Roberto Firmino 'exit confirmed' as Liverpool fans have theory on his replacement

Liverpool fans have been reacting to claims on Friday that Roberto Firmino has told Jurgen Klopp he will leave at the end of the season.

The Reds striker is currently set to have his contract expire at the end of the season. Talks have been apparently going on in the background in recent months, but there have been no signs of an agreement between both parties.

Now a new account has come from Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg. The report states that Firmino will leave Liverpool at the end of the season as a free agent.

It has been claimed that Firmino has informed Jurgen Klopp that he will not sign a new contract and will leave Anfield in the summer.

Plettenberg tweeted this morning to say: "Excl. News #Firmino: He will LEAVE Liverpool after 8 years! It’s decided! The player has informed #Klopp personally & today. It was a good talk. He won’t extend his contract. He will leave the club as a free agent in summer."

He added in a second post: "He made clear to the coach that he will fight for @LFC until the end! He wants to make another step with his family. He has not yet chosen a new club!"

Liverpool fans have been reacting to the new claims, with many echoing similar points.

One fan said: “This news has crushed me. Mane was tough but this one will hit different for me. My favourite player under Klopp, he was the heartbeat of that front three.”

While another added: “It’s sad to see him go but it’s probably for the best for both.”

Twitter has also seen plenty of reaction to the rumours surrounding Firmino’s future at Liverpool. Plenty believe that Cody Gakpo is already being moulded as his replacement - with others thinking that Firmino's wages being removed from the books could see another attacker signed in summer.

Here is a selection of what has been said...

Arj: “Firmino deserves to get the best send off man. Legend.”

Shuke: “A club legend. Thank you Bobby Firmino.”

Josh: “As sad as it will be to see Bobby leave, now is definitely the right time for all parties. I'd prefer him to leave this summer than stay on for two more years being a shadow of his former self.”

Ams: “I can’t believe that about Bobby, thought he was going to stay a few more years. Going to miss him loads.”

Geraint: “I’m not prepared for this, Mane I can take, Salah I could take but Bobby please never leave.”

Ste: “Our number nine is leaving. An absolute, stone cold club legend and a talisman of the greatest LFC era of my adult life. With three options to play central striker it's probably the right call all round, but the place won't be the same without him.”

H: "With Firmino leaving, Gakpo is definitely taking his false 9 role."

Josh B: "I think Gakpo is the Bobby replacement, with Doak being looked at to be Mo’s long term replacement. Or Gordon when he’s back in pre-season injury free."

Peter: "Not surprised hearing the news that Firmino is leaving. Similar to the Diaz signing (replacing Mane early), I think Gakpo was the one that confirmed it. What a player and what a servant to the club! At the peak of his powers, there was no one better in his position."

Paul Robbo: "Liverpool Legend Bobby firmino wish the lad all the best when he leaves this summer. Right decision free’s up more big wages."

Mr Patterson: "With Firmino, Keita, Milner & Oxlade off the wage bill, that's at least £600k a week (if not more) available for new players wages."
