Following the injury to Aaron Rodgers on the opening drive of the 2023 NFL season for the Jets, many of the questions on the quarterback’s status have now been answered. The topic of the team’s long-term plan for this season under center is something coach Robert Saleh also addressed, and did so while making sure to drive his point home.
After first confirming that Rodgers does have a torn Achilles, Saleh was asked about potentially adding another quarterback and left no room for debate or controversy when it came to Zach Wilson.
“I want to make it very clear, Zach's our quarterback. We have a lot of faith in Zach. We’re rolling with Zach and excited for him,” Saleh told reporters.
The Jets coach clarified once more for anyone who needed to hear it, by confirming that there’s no quarterback “competition” going on within the team.
“Under no circumstances is any of this a competition. This is Zach (Wilson)’s team and we’re rolling with Zach,” Saleh said.
Saleh did confirm that quarterback Tim Boyle will be elevated from the team’s practice square to the active roster and is New York’s current backup as the club surveys the quarterback market.
