Bob MacIntyre is planning a break after next month’s Open as he continues to balance life on the PGA Tour with a young family back home.
The left-hander is looking forward to a return to Scotland after the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, which will be his fifth successive week of competitive golf.
A final-round 70 saw him finish joint-39th at the US Open, the first major this year at which he has made the cut, but he is looking to “survive” one more week in the States before heading back across the Atlantic.
MacIntyre initially moved to Florida in 2024 when he qualified to play full-time on the PGA Tour but abandoned the move after six months as he missed the comforts of home.
He and his partner Shannon had a son, Findlay, in January and they joined him in the United States at the start of this current run, but they will all be heading home at the end of the week ahead of MacIntyre’s back-to-back appearances at the Scottish Open in North Berwick and Open Championship at Royal Birkdale next month.
“Yeah, life’s changed. Different priorities. I’ve got a little one at home now that is everything to me. It’s taken a bit of adjusting,” said the two-time Ryder Cup winner.
“I’ve actually got them out (to America) for the first time. This is the first major they’ve come to since he was born in January. He had been struggling a bit until five or six weeks ago.
“Life has been difficult but it’s all good now. I’ve enjoyed them being here and, thankfully, I made a cut.
“To be honest, it’s more that I can speak to them whenever I finish golf. It’s first world problems, isn’t it? They’re at home (in the UK) and you can’t speak to them all day and, when you finish, they are in bed due to the time difference.
“But it’s been far better since they came out been travelling with me. They’ve been here since Dallas (for the Charles Schwab Challenge) and we’ve got one more week to survive then we are going home.
“The game’s good I just need to calm down and put it together at some point.
“I’ve got the Scottish Open and the Open Championship coming up. There’s worse times to put the golf game together than those two weeks.
“I can’t wait (to go home). I don’t know when I am going to peg it back up after the Open, but it could be a wee while.”
