Robert Lewandowski is the best solution to Thomas Tuchel's Romelu Lukaku problem at Chelsea

Losing Romelu Lukaku has been a bitter-sweet revelation for Chelsea fans. Since his homecoming last summer, he hasn’t quite lit up Stamford Bridge in the ways that were expected. Now that his loan deal back to Inter Milan has been finalised, the Blues will need to assess his replacement.

Thomas Tuchel prefers Kai Havertz as a No. 9, however, the German international’s preferred position lies in a more creative role. Despite Havertz scoring some important goals for the Blues, most notably in the 2021 Champions League final, it’s imperative that Chelsea find another traditional striker if they are to compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Tuchel has urged Chelsea to move for Robert Lewandowski despite his interest in a move to Barcelona. The facts are that the Catalans are in a difficult financial situation and Chelsea could capitalise. Having their third bid rejected by Bayern Munich, it’s more than enough to continue the pursuit for the Poland international.

Chelsea have nothing to lose in trying for Robert Lewandowski. He is set on the decision to leave the German giants. It would be a dream scenario to replace Lukaku with a player of Lewandowski's calibre. The 33-year-old is ageing like fine wine in the beautiful game, and whilst he might not be a long-term solution, he would be the best solution.

It has been reported by multiple outlets that Robert Lewandowski has no desire to return to pre-season training with Bayern Munich. It has also been suggested by his former agent that he could even be willing to go on strike in order to force a move to Barcelona. As dedicated as the 33-year-old is to Barcelona, it could be out of his hands as Bayern want a deal worth more than €50million.

The Catalans are still in a state where they will need to offload a number of players in the transfer window to be able to fund such a transfer. Players such as Andreas Christensen who has already agreed on a free transfer to Barcelona are yet to be registered as a consequence of the club's financial difficulties. It’ll be fascinating to see if they can even get Lewandowski over the line.

Barcelona are also in for Chelsea target Raphinha who will cost upwards of £60million as set by Leeds United. With all these factors in play, surely the Blues cannot give up on luring Lewandowski into Thomas Tuchel’s project? As a fan nothing more would make sense than to bring this prolific goalscorer to the Bridge. We speak of marquee signings for Todd Boehly’s first transfer window, how about a player that scores 40-plus goals a season at the age of 33?
