Robert Lewandowski in tears as Barcelona star finally ends World Cup drought vs Saudi Arabia

Robert Lewandowski was emotional as he fired in his first World Cup goal for Poland in their 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia.

The Barcelona star avenged his penalty miss from their group opener to seal their win in Group C after Piotr Zielinski opened the scoring six minutes before the break.

Lewandowski had to wait 82 minutes to break his duck as Poland fired two goals, arguably against the run of play, as they blew the group wide open.

The Pole missed from the spot in their group opener against Mexico as iconic World Cup goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa guessed the right way during the stalemate.

A lot was made of Lewandowski going into the tournament as the record-breaking Bundesliga striker looked to finally make his mark on the global stage.

After the 2020 Ballon d'Or awards were postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, many felt he would've went on to break the trophy stranglehold of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi after his heroics with Bayern Munich during their Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League-winning season.

As well as that, he won a plethora of individual awards too, scooping the Bundesliga Player of the Year, Bundesliga top goalscorer, Tuttosports Golden Player award and UEFA's Forward of the Year - to name a few.

Their win moves them level on points with Saudi Arabia ahead of Argentina's clash with Mexico.
