Robbie Williams faces objection to cut down tree in latest feud with neighbours at West London mansion

Singer Robbie Williams - (PA Wire)

Robbie Williams has angered his neighbours again after he applied to fell a “fungus-infested” tree at his £17.5m west London mansion.

The former Take That singer has applied for permission from Kensington and Chelsea Council to chop down a Norway maple which he says is suffering an infection from honey fungus, which attacks the tree’s roots.

But a neighbour has voiced objections to the felling of the tree at the star’s Holland Park Grade II*-listed home, saying there was no explanation of why he needed to chop it down.

The anonymous neighbour wrote in a submission: “There is no explanation as to why this tree need be felled, only a series of photos showing parts of it are damaged.

“Should there not be a written report that accompanies each proposed felling and what courses of action could be done before the final resort of felling this tree?”

Planners are expected to visit the site soon and make a decision by December 18, according to the local authority’s planning register.

Williams has previously hit headlines over changes at his home, with a highly-publicised spat with his neighbour Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin’s guitarist.

The singer and Page clashed over the Williams’ plans to build an underground swimming pool and gym in 2014.

Page objected to the plans, claiming the vibrations from the work posed a threat to his Grade I listed property.

He alleged the work could damage the ancient paintings and frescoes of his home, which he has lived in since 1972.

The house was designed by the self-styled “art architect” William Burges between 1875 and 1881 and was previously owned by the poet John Betjeman and the actor Richard Harris.

Williams also previously stirred controversy with a previous proposal in June to cut back 14 plants in the garden, claiming they blocked the light to his home.

It sparked objections, with one objector writing to local officials that it would be an act of “environmental vandalism”.

The singer previously attempted to have a ‘shed on stilts’ built for his children in the garden as a play area at the home where he has lived since 2013.

He also was forced to apologise to Page after suggesting in 2017 that the guitarist was sitting in his car outside his house and recording workmen, which he compared to having “a mental illness”.

In a statement, Williams said: “I understand why Jimmy Page will have found my comments offensive and I apologise for any hurt that they have caused him and his family as a result.”

Williams was eventually granted permission for the previous modifications to his home.
