Disappointed Hearts boss Robbie Neilson reckons there are issues that must be ironed out with VAR despite being awarded two penalties.
The new system took centre stage on a dramatic day at Tynecastle with Celtic sub Greg Taylor stepping up to net the decisive goal during a seven-goal thriller, but Neilson wasn't satisfied with the delay for two penalties awarded to his side. Cammy Devlin was caught by Cameron Carter-Vickers in the first half when Nick Walsh went to the screen, before Lawrence Shankland stepped up to slot home from the spot.
VAR would be at the centre of Hearts goal action when Shankland was ordered to retake his penalty for encroachment after Josh Ginnelly had slotted home the rebound. Shankland would step up to score at the second time of asking as the Scotland cap netted a hat-trick during the thrilling Scottish Premiership clash in the capital. After the full-time whistle, Neilson admits he wants improvements to be made.
When asked about VAR Neilson told Sky Sports: "I don't really want to get drawn into it to be honest. I thought we could iron it out quite a bit because there was a lot of issues with it. I think it takes away the responsibility of making a decision at times for ones that are clear cut. I am there on Monday, to the VAR office, and hopefully that will get me a bit more of an understanding of it.
"I think we have to rely on referees to make decisions in the moment and then go back to it, rather than wait for moments. The two penalties were the same penalty.
"One gets given and the other we have to wait for. It is what it is."
